Frazer Nash NDT Ltd
can supply Magnetic Particle Inspections (MPI) both in our lab
and on site as required. MPI can only be applied to ferromagnetic
materials such as steel and iron (excluding stainless steel).
It is a reliable method of detecting near surface or surface
flaws through principles of magnetic fields that are applied
in several ways (most commonly yokes coils etc). Iron particles
are applied to the test areas which are then attracted to areas
of "flux leakage" caused by relevant flaws.
Fluorescent MPI can also be applied
in conditions similar to that mentioned in Penetrant Testing,
and is a widely used method for complex castings, machined parts
or aerospace components where cleaning implications found in
(PT) make Fluorescent MPI a more practical solution.
